I've written exactly one piece for the Piano. It's not that I can't write for the Piano, it's that I don't feel, as a non-Pianist, that I have anything really meaningful to add to the enormous library of Piano literature. So, with that in mind, it is only natural that I would take my one piece, Allegro Ritmico, and transcribe it for wind band.
This short work is suitable for a top high school ensemble. In fact, unlike most of my other works, I kept in mind the demands a normal high school would have for a work and limited the instrumentation to a very standard lineup. The changing meter (not typical of my other works) makes for a great rhythmic challenge. The A and B sections are both based on limited pitch classes meaning only a handful of notes are used in either section and all harmony is based on those notes and only those notes. From what was an early student exercise, I think I've ended up with a clever little piece for band.
