This work, written in 2004, has yet to be performed. It was actually a day away from the premiere, but the day before the performance, the bell of the Bass Saxophone literally fell off!
The work is a somber and melancholy lament in C minor that shows off the darker side of the Bass Saxophone. Some of the inspiration is from the mournful song in Prokofiev's Alexander Nevsky. This piece can be thought of as a sister piece to the Chaccone for Baritone Saxophone and Strings.
This work also exists in versions for Contra-Alto Clarinet and Bass Oboe. Please contact me directly for information on those versions.
